Know WhatsUp With Your Friends With WhatsApp

WhatsApp is an all in one mobile application and provides support to multiple vendors that include- iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia. Lets have a closer look into the features of this application.

Multi Platform Support

Multi Platform Support is the interoperability among devices. By definition interoperability is the technology which provides connection and operation among devices that are not compatible. This is done by using various middleware applications. WhatsApp is one such application which provides connectivity among phones of different vendors like iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia and Android.

Cost Efficient Connectivity

WhatsApp uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing. Hence, you do not have to bear extra costs in order to avail its services. It operates over Wi-Fi network too.

Free Text and MMS

The app allows you to exchange messages without having to bear extra costs. Hence, it is very different from SMS. Even international messages are serviced without any extra costs. Besides it allows multimedia features to send video, images and voice notes. All these are made possible by phonebook integration. Version 2.6 enjoys the availability of group chat too.
The green check marks of the application gives the status of messages sent.

What is meant by Green Check Marks?

  • message successfully delivered to the server.
  • message successfully delivered to the device of the chat partner. (note: this does not indicate that message was read, just that it was delivered)

Phonebook Integration

The main aspect is that it requires no extra pins or usernames. It works like simple SMS would and integrates directly with the phone book of the device. It asks for your phone number because that is how WhatsApp routes chat messages between you and your contacts, similar to how the regular SMS system would. Hence it provides instant chat accountability will friends on your contact list.

How to Update Your Phone Number?

  • Step 1: update your WhatsApp status with new phone number.
  • Step 2: delete WhatsApp and re-install and register with your new phone number.

You Can Even Block a Contact

This can be done in two ways:
  • First way is via Block button which is displayed when you get a message from somebody who is not in your address book
  • Second way is WhatsApp > Settings > Chat Settings > Block menu

Offline Messages and Push Notifications

Even if you turn off your device or travel outside the coverage area, WhatsApp will save your messages offline and will retrieve them when network coverage is restored or device is turned back on. So, there is no worry on missing out conversations or events. You can easily catch up with friends even when the app is not running.

Custom Status

Like Social Networking websites you can share your status with everyone. So, if you are busy or through a meeting you friends will not disturb you because they shall be aware of your status.
So, why wait? Go ahead and download the application. I did the same and now its much more easier to be in contact with my sister who stays miles away, and that too at no extra costs.
